The crown, straight arms, and open eyes hark back to the older iconography. But as in the newer iconography Jesus is bare-chested and wears the skirt that replaced the priestly colobium and by now was itself often replaced by the length of cloth tied around his midsection.
The placing of Adam at the foot of the cross is another feature of the older iconography that will disappear in the 13th century.
Mary's crossed-arms gesture is unusual in Crucifixion images. It appears occasionally in much later Annunciations. It may simply have the stylistic purpose of keeping the outline of the statue simple and linear.
